Look for a sprawling sign that seems to signal a rest stop coming up on the busy road and you know you’ve found 1950 House. It looks nothing like your run-of-the-mill restaurant, but rest assured that the soft warmth of incandescent lights and the mouth-watering smell of sizzling hamburger patties will more than allay your fears once you step inside. 1950 House has been located at Yusuam Rest Stop since 2011, and it has no plans of going anywhere soon. It’s hard to get to 1950 House without a car. Even so, the restaurant is always packed during the weekends. Here, fast food is transformed into a labor of love complete with black pork patties and fresh vegetables. There’s no way the staff at 1950 House is letting you walk out the door with anything less than a hearty meal tucked underneath your belt. If you’re at a loss as to what to order, the black burger and barley burger come highly recommended. Believe it or not, it gets even better. Most of the ingredients supplied to 1950 House come straight from the producers without going through separate distribution channels. This translates into prices that are as affordable as the food is filling. Burgers weigh in between 6,000 to 7,000 won, and for anything between 13,000 to 14,000 won, you get the full combo of a burger with fries, wings, and a soft drink. 1950 House representative Jaehyun Lee says, “We wanted to make healthy hamburgers from the best that the clean environment of Jeju has to offer. These are definitely well-being burgers.” Healthy eating is a priority at 1950 House, and the burgers on the menu reflect that sense of focus in their all-around appeal. On weekends, customers of all ages--often with their families in tow--gather at the joint to enjoy its friendly atmosphere, almost as they would at a rest stop halfway through a long, hard journey. In reality, a rest stop isn’t far from what Jaehyun Lee hopes to provide his customers along with quality burgers and long-lasting relaxation. 1950 House is home to anything but the hustle and bustle of a fast food chain. “Our employees eat the same hamburgers they serve,” says Lee. “You tend to make sure you cook up only the very best if you know that it’s food for you and your family.” Count on 1950 House for its tireless dedication to quality and reliability, and for the welcome that will always be waiting for anyone who walks through the door.
